WHAT IS A GOLD SWAP?

A gold swap is the overnight financing adjustment a broker applies to a XAUUSD position that is still open at the daily rollover, most commonly 22:00 UTC. The figure is quoted per lot per night inside the MetaTrader 5 symbol specification and reflects dollar interest rates, gold lease rates and the broker markup, with long gold usually the debit side.

Wednesday rollover normally carries triple swap because the value date rolls across the weekend. Intraday gold strategies that close before rollover are unaffected, but a six-week position trade can pay more in swap than in spread and commission combined, so the nightly cost should be modelled against the target before entry.
